Default UUC short shifter for 2000 S4

I am getting a UUC short shifter installed soon and I am trying to decide what I want the level set to---20, 30, or 40%. I have heard that 40% may be a little too much. Anybody have suggestions for me??

Default I prefered 30% over 20%. Never tried 40%.

Default installed @ 30%, went to 40% + tanoga spacer mod a few weeks back.. smoother than 30% for me (more)

when i was @ 30% 2nd was a notchier than all the other gears (which i attribute to me not spending the time to adjust it correctly, nor knowing that there is a specific procedure in the bentley manual). adjusting the lower hex nut properly is the key to smooth operation of the shifter.

the bentley manual goes into detail about adjusting the shift mechanism properly. to summarize:

distance between body and rear push rod should be 43mm (measured via "A")

- viewing from the rear, the vertical inclination of the shifter should be slanted to the right, at a maximum of 3 degrees.

- viewing from the passenger side, the gear shift should be inclined slightly backwards (rearwards) approximately 7 degrees

- when in 2nd gear, there should be "play" left and right in the gate. when I had my shifter @ 30% it didn't have any left-side play, probably due to the fact that my shifter's left-right inclination was non-existent (ie. it was straight up)

hope that helps

shifter adjustment procedure

Default Excellent tip!!! Thank you so much...

After reading your post, I readjusted my shifter as close as possible to the specs. Now 2nd is as smooth as all the other gears.
