You'll most likely need the MB Quart adapters to fit 5.25" in the front Part #: QMAUDIFRONT. Your local MB Quart dealer can order them if they dont have them.

Is it Bose Audio or Standard? if it's Bose there is a way to add a sub and amp but you can't replace the other speakers, a friend did it, big mess, put it back to stock. If you have the non-bose, then the converters mentioned should do the trick!

In my opinion, using the internal amps and then a line level converter would cause unacceptable compromise to the sound, especially given that alternatives exist.
At least for the Symphony unit, here is some info from an occasional member, Britney: "The Symphony is the same regardless of whether it is BOSE or not. This is just a coding issue done via a VAG. It basically adds the BOSE name to the Symphony on start up, changes the equalization curves, and disables the internal amp for the front speakers. " Then, you can add all the amps and speakers you want. Precision Car Stereo in Mountain View, CA, have a modification that replaces the final output stage with a better sounding, higher gain one. They do this for many customers (with or without Bose) referred by Carlsen Audi in E. Palo Alto. But, they weren't familiar with the ability to reprogram BOSE with the VAG tool. Reprogramming might make this mod unnecessary, although the mod may have better sonics anyway. When I decide to spend the money and replace the speakers, woofer, and amps, I'll be posting in the Audio forum with announcements in A6 and here in S4.
