If there could only be a cop detector... I had my Passport 8500 on while driving on a 15 mile stretch from Staten Island to Brooklyn yesterday night. I was confidently doing 80-110mph, thinking to myself that if there is a cop out there with a radar, the "best of the best" 8500 will pick it up and I will have enough time to slow down. I had my windows tinted, 20% all around, a day ago and since I am not used to it just yet, I did not see who was following me, and as you have guessed by now, it was the Staten Island Hwy Patrol cloaking my speed, bastard! When he finally stoped me, few hundred feet from Verezano bridge, he was telling me at which speed I was going at every exit on the 15 mile stretch, arghh.. how could I have not noticed him. I was so pissed off, mosty because this ticket means suspension of my license
and the ironic thing is that I just got it unsuspended only 2 weeks ago. Now I have to go to court and tell a judge a story. I have 8pts on license and 12pts = suspension. Speeding tickets range from 3 to 4 points. Any idea how I could persuade the judge to make it a 3 pointer? The ticket was 83 in 50 zone.

Get yourself the best lawyer you can find or you will not be driving for a while.

When I went to the required hearing, I told the judge that I was trying to escape from a guy who was harrassing me while in traffic. He did have some sympathy for me, giving me the minimum $120 fine. I don't know about the points though. I have a CT license, so I wasn't worried about it. NY doesn't report tickets to CT.
Hope this helps at least a little. |

Just goes to show that you always have to be alert for smokies, seem like it makes their day to bust someone that is enjoying a "spirted drive."
Sorry to hear that, I recommend a good traffic lawyer as well maybe he can work something out. Good luck, keep us posted.

i got busted pretty bad on the Hutch and hired a lawyer. . .he charged $1800 for two tickets and I haven't heard anything yet - from DMV or him. He said that he's awaiting a court date. I'm not sure if he's good or not.
Or try this. On another speeding ticket in Mass. I just contacted www.speedingticketdefense.com a lawyer by the name of Jeff Nathan and he said he could most likely get the ticket dismissed. but the cost is $900 per ticket/ or $200 for a phone consultation and he would tell you exactly what to say to the judge and get the ticket dismissed. He said it worked for his secratary and the owner of a porsche 911 (on his website). |

having lived there for the past 30 years, (15 of those driving there) you will have a tough time.
1. hire a lawyer 2. if you want any type of leniency, you will have to be present with your attorney. 3. SI Hwy's favorite method is to match your speed. I'm assuming that you came up the West Shore expwy. Was this trooper driving a Black Crown Vic per chance? 4. The judges in the Staten Island TVB are extremely tough, I would not imagine you getting the points reduced. I got a 77 in a 50 last July. Even though my attorney and my testimony proved the officer to be incorrect, I still got the "full boat" (the officer testified verbally that I was in a completely different area and heading the opposite direction at the time of the incident) Everyone in the courtroom got the same treatment (at least the 8-10 people with cases ahead of mine did) Good luck.
