Default Should've done the bypass valves 20K miles ago.

I know this is old, old news for some of you. But I've spent 20K miles sitting on the fence wondering if after-market BVs would make a difference. I've read all the posts on the benefits and first-hand accounts. But, especially since my car isn't chipped, I couldn't help wondering if I'd just be pissing away $300 on nothing.

Well, after a relatively easy 30-minute install this evening, the Baileys are in! And man, there *is* a difference. So much so that I'm wondering if my stock BVs were screwed up somehow (although they don't look to be). This is no placebo effect either. The engine is definitely quicker to provide power. I don't think I'm getting *more* power -- I'm just getting it faster.

So if there are any hold-outs out there like I was, who aren't sure about this investment, I'm here to say that you will most likely dig on it -- chipped or no. Next up for me: Forge cat-back (once I'm able to build up the slush fund again).

Default I'm glad you bought valves that work right the first time..

I have them too, and they've work perfectly for 15,000 miles. Make sure the fitting that the vacuum line goes to is screwed in tight.

Default I've been sitting on that same fence too...

But I think I am going to go ahead and order them today with only about 700 miles on my car. I'll be able to install them next week since I will still be working nights. Nights suck, but they make it really easy to get stuff done during the day if you go without too much sleep!

I think I've decided to order the Bailey valves for the car, largely since I haven't heard anything bad about the Bailey valves, but I've read the old thread on the Forge valves.

Default are the two thin hoses the vacuum lines (1 s-shaped and the other the straight hose)?

Default Do bypass valves have the same effect for tips as they do with a stick?

Yep, that's them. Probably the trickiest part of the install too. That curved hose on the passenger side has to be bent in a slightly unnatural position during the recommended install for the Baileys (which is what I did). However, it seems Yessss4 had a better idea...

I didn't do this, but it looks pretty nice if you want to go the extra mile.

Default the thing is...

that the valves are for when you use the clutch. they release extra boost. so while youre off the gas and have the clutch depressed, the turbo's momentum is keeping it spinning really fast and the extra boost has to go somewhere because the engine can't take it.

when i shift with the tip, my boost doesnt go down. when i look at my boost gauge, the psi's don't drop when it shifts gears.

so this is why i'm wondering if the bypass valves matter as much in a tiptronic. this is just based on my understanding of what happens in the turbo system. i could be wrong...
