Aftermarket Bluetooth that uses OEM steering wheel buttons! !

I should start by stating that I do not work for any of the manufacturers/distributors of any of the products used in this post. I am not an electrical or automotive engineer. I am not responsible for any misfortune you may experience if you choose to attempt to follow any of the procedures described. Proceed at your own risk.

I would love to have the Audi OEM Bluetooth, but the "Technology Package" I would have to buy to get it pushed the cost of my A4 just outside my comfort zone. I figured I could just add Audi Bluetooth later anyway.

The good news is that, yes, I could add Audi's Bluetooth components to my A4, but from my research it looks like it would cost about $700 (I don't have NavPlus and unless someone has one for sale cheap, I am not that interested in adding it).

Several months ago I installed a Parrot CK3000 Bluetooth kit. (a detailed FAQ is here - http://www.audiworld.com/tech/elec134.shtml) It really works well, but I've never been crazy about the Parrot controller on my dash. Especially when there are perfectly placed phone control buttons on my steering wheel mocking me.

There are a lot of really great Bluetooth kits out there (Motorola, Nokia, Siemens), but I bought the Parrot CK3000 because I thought it would be just a matter of time before someone came up with an interface kit to connect it to the Audi wheel buttons.

Someone has.

I have been testing the kit for a US Parrot distributor on my 2006 B7. There were a couple of minor details that we needed to work out before I was 100% satisfied with it's operation. It's working great and the issues we encountered will be addressed in the new model out in a few weeks. It really is slick and if you feel comfortable following the Parrot CK3000 instructions outlined in my FAQ, then adding the SW100C wheel interface is a snap.

Here's what you get:
CP100M--CAN-BUS adapter cable
SW100C--Steering wheel interface
10-Pin Mute adapter (was not available at the time of my testing)

Before you install the SW100C, open the box and take a moment to set the four DIP switches as per the instructions.

1) Install the Parrot CK3000 as per my original FAQ: http://www.audiworld.com/tech/elec134.shtml

Unlike my original installation of the CK3000, the Steering Wheel Interface kit (SW100C ) will take the place of the Parrot controller and a 10-pin connector that plugs into the Audi stereo will provide a MUTE connection, so there is no need to fabricate one as I did.

I also would recommend installing the CK3000 to under the dash to the right of the steering column for easier access, rather than under the stereo as I did in my original install.
2) I would recommend connecting the Parrot kit completely and temporarly connecting the Parrot controller pad so that you cam test the Parrot CK3000. Pair your Bluetooth phone as per your phones instructions and the instructions in the CK3000.

If all is working fine, proceed to the next step. If not, review your instillation of the CK3000.

3) Connect the CP100M cable between the Symphony II stereo and the car's wiring harness as shown.

4) Plug the Pink and Green wires from the SW100C into the Pink and Green wires on the CP100M cable.

5) Connect the SW100C mute wires to the 10-pin mute wire and reconnect the CK3000.

6) Unplug the CK3000 controller pad from the CK3000 and plug the SW100C,s black plug in its place.

Figure out where you will mount the SW100C (I put mine just to the right of the steering column under the lower dash, next to the CK3000.) and attach with Velcro. Open the SW100C case and turn on the ignition. The LED next to the DIP switches should be blinking.

You will need to program the SW100C using the button at the top of the circuit board, to the right of where the wires are connected. Press and hold the button for a moment. The LED will flash in a sequence of one, two, three or four flashes. Press the button to advance the flash to the next sequence until you get to four flashes. Press and hold the button to set the sequence. The LED should be flashing in a sequence of four flashes. (The flash programming may be different on the new model, follow your instructions with the kit.)Close the box.

Time to check the function of the system. All of the Voice commands of the CK3000 function as before, but you should also be able to control the unit via the Audi steering wheel buttons.

To access Parrot menu.

1) Parrot must be in stand-by (paired with phone, but not in use) to access menu.
2) To access the Parrot Menu, scroll left roller on steering wheel Up-Down-Up-Down.
(This will cause the stereo to change radio stations or CD tracks briefly if stereo is on).

3) To choose menu item, scroll right roller on steering wheel Up or Down.

4) To select menu option, tap right button on steering wheel.

5) To save settings and exit menu press and hold right button on steering wheel.

To Place Call.

Tap right side steering wheel button to activate Parrot CK3000.

To switch to Discrete mode.

Tap right side steering wheel button once call is initiated. Tap again to return conversation to car kit.

To Hang up.

Press and hold the right side steering wheel button.

To automatically re-dial last number.

Press and hold the right side steering wheel button to bring CK3000 out of stand-by and re-dial last number.

To adjust conversation volume.

Scroll roller wheel on right side of steering wheel UP or Down to raise or lower volume.

I am completely satisfied with the features, function and totally stealth OEM look of the kit, for a lot less than OEM.

..it looks like they have built a canbus interface with the parrot module. Very neat.

Most who have invested in the RNS-E unit, will probably opt for the OEM BT module because it has more features, the GUI and controllable parameters via the VAG-COM.

Either way, good stuff...and thanks for posting and doing the legwork.
