Even complete novices can hear the difference between one speaker and another. All they have to do is let their ears tell them which set sounds most appealing.

Buying speakers without listening to them usually leads to settling on a set that doesn't give them the most for their money.

I know plenty of people who bought their speakers without listening to them first and merrily point out; "I'm really happy with them." Who isn't happy with a solution that does the job? But when you are replacing a an old car you can wait to get rid of and the only one you drive is a Chevvy Impala, chances are you're likely to think that's good enough to.

The people I know who took a bit of time out to choose which speakers they most enjoyed the sound of have a different response when I ask them how they're enjoying their new speakers - something more along the lines of "These things are amazing" or "I love listening to these things". Much more passion in their response. Big difference.
