Default Question for Gary or Luke@Tirerack...best cheap tire for my sisters stock 87 Jetta GLI 16V (edited)

Car: 1987 VW Jetta GLi 16V

Size would be 185/60/14...maybe 195/60/14...possibly 195/55/14?

I am looking for very inexpensive...she totalled her other car..and we are trying to spend the absolute minimum on getting this new car up and running safely.

What do you suggest? and what would the price be?

TIA.

Default Mark...I was thinking America's Tire...I know lots of the store managers...

I still need to find out what tires are sorta decent, even though extremely cheap. I would buy from Tirerack..but I need them mounted cheaply as well. I have Pep Boys stores here too.

Default Probably the S. The C4S are just too much $$ for me right now.

At least from what I've seen out on the market. I had the S6 almost sold & had an in'n'out worked out for an '03 S with 6k miles but the guy backed out.

I dunno, after the divorce I've re-evaluated my priorities & am wondering about putting some $$ into something other than cars (like a Condo in Moab or Southern Utah) but cars are in my blood dammit. I do want a summer car so I've actually been thinking about a Honda S2000. I know it ain't a Porsche but for $30k it's hard to beat! I'm picking up a used Subie Outback for winter/biking/camping etc. Older used Boxsters kinda scare me for reliability.

I can swing the '03 but am having 2nd thoughts. The only debt I have is my house & car but wouldn't mind lowering the car debt. I'll figure it out... :-)

Default Re: Question for Gary@Tirerack best cheap tire for my sisters stock 97 Jetta GLI 16V

I'd suggest taking a look at the Kumho HP4, best value tire for entry-level pricing basic all season tires in those sizes.

Default Ew...Ew...buy a houseboat at Bullfrog and I will come out and drink beer and water ski with you

Ah...memories of driving after work, from Vail CO, all the way to Bullfrog...getting up early...waiting for the ski boat and houseboat...and then leaving the dock for unlimited canyon excursions...VERY VERY fun memories of southern Utah. Frickin hot, I remember THAT real well.

Default My friend has a houseboat @ Powell. After hearing the horror stories from him

about his experiences, no way! Basically he rented it out & some moron ran it into some rocks, tore a hole in one of the pontoons (or whatever they are) and it sunk 1/2 way. He has taken it in the shorts on the boat plus it has created a family fued since he went in on it with his Dad & bro-in-law.

I agree with you though, Powell is awfully hot in the summer but autumn is soooooo awesome. Pure warm water glass to ski on in the mornings.
