Default So what do my fellow A4 drivers think? *EDIT - updated initial mods*

Pending test drive this is my top choice right now. Off the top of my head as compared to my A4...

2007 VW GTI Mk 5

Advantages: 6 speed manual (my first), 2.0 turbo (my first), good side bolsters on the seats, awesome steering wheel, aluminum pedals, presumably better suspension, 2 doors better then 4, aero wipers , and fuel economy.

The breakdown:
2-door base - $22,100
United Gray - Free
Leather Anthracite - Package
Front Sport Seats - Package
Package #1 - Package
- Power Tilt & Slide Glass Sunroof w/Manual Sunshade
- SIRIUS™ Satellite Radio
Package #2 - $3,160
- Package #1
- Climatronic® Dual-Zone Automatic Climate Control
- Cold Weather Package
- Heated Front Seats
- Front Heatable Windshield Washer Nozzles
Premium Audio System - $325
Rubber Mat Kit (maybe) - $185
Subtotal: $25,770
Destination BS: $630
TOTAL: $26,400

I assume HIDs are standard since it doesn't appear to be an option and I'm almost certain they have them.

Initial Mods:
- iPod kit for sure (not sure if the OEM VW one is good)
- 15% Llumar Matte Black Metal Tint
- Hardwire my radar detector
- Smoked reflectors (ECS has them for $45, or I could DIY)
- Open Fog Light Grilles (ECS has them for $40)

They'd look really good on dark gray I assume...

Better then the closed ones...

Now for some pictures of the interior (courtesy of VW Vortex):

my seats would be solid black, no dsg, and no navi

don't know why the pic is angled, but a good shot of the seats

Engine (they keep it pretty hidden):

Default Looks like fun, but those ugly wheels have to go...

also fwd does nothing for me :-(((

All in all though, it's a very nice and fun car from what I hear... and you can chip it ;-)

Default yeah I'm not sure about those rims at all...

just looking forward to a test drive we'll see how that goes. I do love quattro, but in my climate it's not the most necessary thing in the world.

Default That's true, but torque steer happens in every climate...

and you will have it on a 200+hp fwd car.

Default Not for me. Ugly design. Not a evolution in design either.

I've stood next to a few of these and they have no real presence. The Jetta is even worse. I bought a used Audi instead of a new VW.

Default I've driven almost the exact same car. It's very nice, but

if it were me, I might actually get the DSG with it. Did you test drive one with DSG? It would make me consider not having a manual.

Other then that, I found it to be nicely made, handled tight, really fun to rake through the gears on the DSG.

But not enough to give up the utility and quattro of the Avant.

Default I think they are great cars but I still don't like the styling.....for that price you can get a high

mileage B6 S4 (2004MY). I've seen ones with 60k miles go for upper $20k. I'm sure you might be able to find a 30k-40k mileage car for that price. Of course you'll not get good gas mileage and it's still a B6, but all your mods will transfer nicely.
