Default Wait until you guys get a load of this....the detailing job I had this weekend....

Before I start: These pictures are untouched and not exaggerated in any way!

Well, I'd left this guy one of my cards under his wiper quite some time ago, and just last week he called to ask if I was still detailing cars on the side. Of course said I, but little did I know just how much further down-hill his finish had gone since I'd last seen the car.

Here's how the car was delivered to me. Apparently, someone had written something derogatory in the haze on his hood which he'd then tried to remove (with what I don't know). If my guess is right, they wrote "Got Wax?"

Anyway, he'd gotten 2/3 of the hood done and stopped. Didn't buff, didn't do anything, just called me. As you can see, this car also spent a number of its years with a bra on. I never thought I'd say this, but the paint that was under the bra is the best paint on the car. It also shows you what a few years of south-Texas sun will do to an unwaxed car.

Bra line, untouched haze and owner's attempt at repair.

Roof with clearcoat peeling and line between my polished portion and untouched near side.

Rear quarter with clearcoat peeling. Rear wing removed for ease of working. Wing was by far the worst paint on the car, but for some reason I didn't take pics. I was unable to do much for it either, so it still ruins the look of my work

Here's the car after multiple applications of MIP on the yellow pad, follwed by MFP on the white, GEPC on the gray and Blitz by hand. Needless to say, in the places where the clearcoat was disintegrating, I was only able to reduce the appearance of the damage. No detailer can put paint back on the car. There is still some faint haze in the paint on the horizontal surfaces, but there's still a 1000% improvement in the car's appearance. I think I probably could have done more, but knowing how fragile the clearcoat is on the car, I was unwilling to really push it. Since he's looking to sell it to a neighbor for his soon-to-be-16 y/o son, I think it's all he could ask at the price he was paying.

Default Nice work Troy!!

I'm picking up a new beater this week or next. I saw it last week...clearcoat is in mediocre shape (not peeling, but not really shiny), with some scratches through the clear, but mostly okay. It's got some touch up applied to the front bumper that looks rather unsightly.

I'm looking forward to a top down job on that beast. My father saw the car I was contemplating buying...and he shook his head...blown head gasket, interior was not-so-clean (but not really abused, just used), exterior had not been washed. My eye sees more (well, the head gasket was an unexpected sight...for me and the original owner, so he's taking care of that)...can't wait to post the before and after shots!!
