Default ABS problem

My 1997 A8 has developed a problem. When braking to a standstill from low speed, the brake pad would judder (feels like ABS is activated, but should not under such mild braking) and then the ABS warning light comes on.

But after the stop the engine and re-start, there is no ABS warning light.

I've taken the car to the dealer for checking this, but they could found any fault.

What could be the cause of this ?

I actually am encountering the same exact problem. I am almost positive that one of our abs sensors has gone to **** and needs to be replaced. You would have to hook the car up to a vag-com with the engine light on to diagnose the problem.

.
I had an intermittant ABS light, but without ABS being activated during braking.

The dealer couldn't find any faults, but he cleaned the speed sensors of accumulated brake dust and all has been OK since.

I had the same problem - it was a faulty speed sensor.

Default I have to clean and align the ABS sensors in the Alfa after a couple of track sessions.

Sounds like it's a pretty common thing.
