Default 65 - 75 mph shake...does anyone have an answer....

The rims have tested straight and balanced out with very little weight ,the tires repositioned and the wheels remounted using several different techniques...still a shudder at 40ish and then more pronounced at 65-75....I had the wife drive down the parkway yesterday while I looked out the window and the rims appear perfect ,no run-off etc. I have an appointment for roadforce balance next week at a German Auto shop but I'm worried that it's not going to fix the problem...A search revealed a LOT of questions but no real answers...has anyone ever really fixed this problem ??.

Default Does this happen with both your aftermarket wheels and your stock wheels?

Or just your aftermarket wheels?

If just aftermarket, I can bet that the hubcentric spacers aren't the correct size or have too much play....replace them with something that is very tight and it will most likely go away.

Default Re: Does this happen with both your aftermarket wheels and your stock wheels?

Hmmmm ,I actually used to feel a very slight shudder at around 30mph with the stock rims but the A/M rims obviously are lo-pro and I'm convinced are multiplying an existing condition..The hub rings are less than perfect but deemed (by the shop) to have no use other than to aid mounting as the rims are ultimatly stud piloted ?..someone had mentioned that Hankook tires are not tbhat great BUT I've never heard anything but good about them elsewhere...

Default Get the proper hubcentric spacers...I bet it will go away

The shop doesn't know what they are talking about....this has happened multiple times on the A8 board, and once we figured it out...we figured it out!!

Default I had hubcentric wheels, so the spacers were not an issue for me (m)

Mine was fixed by upgrading to better tires (Pilot Sport A/S, the dealer gave up on the stock Conti's, we went through three new sets) and getting the roadforce down under 10lbs on the fronts, they were at 7lbs each. The other thing that the dealer did, was bring the toe in to the max spec giving by AoA. That worked for me.
BTW, is the shudder in the steering wheel or the body? If it is in the body, get the rears down low too.

Default We gave our machinist an Alfa wheel hub. He now mades centering rings

and spacers all in one (if needed) and modifies the wheels (5x100 pattern) to fit our cars (5x98). Very snug fit, but not a hint of vibration. We run many sizes, offsets, and tires, No problems.

I agree, proper hubcentric centering rings are the only way to go.

Default For my situation, I think tires play a role.

When I originally bought the car it came with Conti's. Then I put on Winter Sport M2 and both set of tires were fine. I recently put on the Toyo T1-s tires and I noticed vibration immediately. Granted, it could be by chance that the wheels weren't balanced correctly, but I doubt it. My wife hasn't noticed the vibration, but I certainly do. However, I won't give up the tires at all.

I will have them rebalanced soon to rule that out.

Anyone else with Toyo's having any slight vibration?
