Default Gasoline and ethanol content

With all the recent talk of E85, there has been allot more data on the use of ethanol lately. Most of the focus has been on flex-cars (see E85 link below), but little attention has been raised on the effects of the increased ethonol content in our pump gasoline.

I was talking to my dad this evening over dinner, and he mentioned that as of March 2006, the ethonol content of the gasoline that they purchase (as a commercial customer: yacht club) is increased. The fuel distributor warned against potential side effects that the boat owners might face as a result of the solvent effect of the increased ethonol:

- Rotten fuel lines
- melted (fiber glass) gas tanks
- increased sediment in fuel, as a result of the solvent breaking up sludge at the bottom of the fuel tank.

So, maybe it's time to swap out the fuel filter.

Food for thought.

Default How would your car run on Ethanol laden 91 oct like CA?

We still have 92 oct here (Seattle), but is low-emission (high ethanol content). Real 93 oct would be sweet.

Default We're up to 10% ethanol content in the northeast. Do they put more in your gas?

Default I think the standard here is E10, which is 10% ethanol. Not sure what else they put in the gas to

lower emissions though.

I know that CA has it worse than us. I just know that my 2+ APR-93 WHP curves looked way worse than people who had real 93 oct.
