I had an awesome time at the ACNA Cherokee chapter Road Atlanta event!

Was my first audi event and the first time I'd been on a track in nearly 11 years
My first session was hilarious. I ran in group 2 and although I passed or was held up by a great number of cars, my lines were bad and my driving was crap. I liken it to my football/basketball days where when you'd move up a level, junior high -> high school, high school - college, etc., the game was moving so much faster that it was difficult to process all of the information. The session was 20mins and I told my instructor that it felt like 45 secs. Things were moving faster than I could keep up.
The afternoon was totally different. Things started to slow down (in my mind), my lines improved, as did my smoothness. By the last session on saturday, I felt I had things figured out pretty well except for exiting 1 (had a tendency to pinch the line) and my line through 5 wasn't all that it could be.
The car held up great to be pushed in 85deg weather. Threw a MIL for a driver's side, rear o2 sensor but since I'm running test pipes and foulers, no big deal there. Oil temps were around 265-270 as I didn't have time to install the rs4 ock before I left. I had the boost set to around 16psi which was plenty. Only things I would've liked to change would've been 1000lb diet, more spring rate/chassis stiffness/damping/rear bar (car wouldn't rotate very easily), and more progressive throttle response -- the homebrew is very on/off although I seemed to have helped this considerably on sunday when I changed the boost curve on the avc-r and dialed it down to around 13 at 2500 with steps up to around 17.5 between 4500-6000 ramping down to 16 by 7000. I short-shifted the car much Sunday very rarely running more than 6000 revs.
Great banquet dinner on saturday -- mmmmm, buffet = happy donnie!
That night, the skies let loose. Was raining pretty good on Sunday morning. They through a debris flag for water in the 3/4 group and ended up running it yellow (no passing) the remainder of the morning sessions.
I was smart enough to get down to the hot pits early on sunday. Was p1 (
) for the rain session and that gave me a warm up lap + 3 real laps before I caught the tail cars. The s4 was completely in its element in the wet and I enjoyed the session much more than saturdays. Although, we weren't informed it was going to be a double so instead of pitting to gain space, my instructor and I assumed the session would be ending each lap and we puttered around in 4th talking things other than cars/race lines.
My instructor had a long drive back to DC and was leaving at noon so he said he'd talk to the chief instructor (bob barker -- the price is wrong biatch!) about getting me solo'd. I guess being signed off to solo in pca events your 1st/2nd time (according to my instructor) is a regular occurance but ACNA events are a bit different. After some cajoling, Bob agreed to give me a solo checkride at my first Audi event --- w00t!
Was p1 (again) for the first afternoon session. Bob and I had a good time. His philosphy was a bit different than John and mine but he was certainly correct about things. He wanted me to work more on driving styles suitable to all cars and less on one suitable for awd and high hp turbo cars. Passed the checkride -- w00t. Solo'd for the final run session.
Final run was good. I was p2 behind a very nice looking 964 c2. After the warm-up lap I made quick work of him and it was off for 3/4 good laps before I caught the tail cars, again. The race line was completely dry by this time and some pretty high speeds were carried. Managed to hit the mid 140s on the backstretch. Great session and a great way to end my first acna event.
Met mbox and pie4foo after the event. Great guys, the both of them. Thanks for coming out.
Met gatoral during the event and hung out with him a bit. Awesome guy, as well. I have gatoral suspension envy. He packed up after the morning session sunday and headed back to fla.
There were a couple of cool cars there -- the bimmerworld race cars were there on saturday working on some things. One of them led the track intro laps in a new, stock tired m5. Was nice to see how much speed he carried. Rarely braked at all. There was a carrera gt there, as well.

The ride home was eventful. My borrowed trailer blew a tire on 85S. I got it to the shoulder, called AAA, they couldn't help me. Called my wife to find somebody that would bring me a tire. It was around 5:30pm on a sunday. I thought, maybe, just maybe, I could find a tire place still open. D/C the trailer, removed the disentigrated wheel/tire, and headed out in search of salvation. Found a few tire shops, all closed. Practiced my chicano spanish on a couple of guys in a trans shop. They couldn't help. Directed me to pepboys -- closed. Found a walmart --- light bulb on!!!!
Clock in the car says 6:15 and the sign on the tire and lube shop says 7. Sweet, I'm in time. Door locked, wtf??? Clock in car = central time. Atlanta = eastern time.
So, I start bangin on the door. A large, man-woman black lady comes to the door and gives me the wtf look. I explain my situation and she says she can't help. I ask if I can buy a couple of tires and she concedes. The sales game ensues. While she's checking me out, I ask her if she'll take $40 to remove/install one trailer tire. She says no, she can't help. She's got somewhere to be. I say ok, thanks anyway. She brings me my 2 el-cheapo tires and starts to let me out of the door, I ask her if she'd change the tire for $80 and her expression changes.
"You must really be desparate" No isht, hello, i'm 300 miles from home, pulling a fairly expensive car on someone elses trailer that I left on 85S!!!!!!
She takes the tire back and tells me to go get the rim.
$80 later, i'm on my way tire in tow. My wife calls to tell me she found a guy that'll do it for $200. I tell her i got er dun already
Rest of the trip was uneventful, but slow. I took it easy to make sure the other tires remained inflated. Back to Nashville around 11:15 central. Couple of heinekens, some lasagna, and a slice of ice cream pie and it was off to la-la land.
Can't wait until the next one. I'm picking it out today. Want to do barber and VIR in the fall. Any thoughts on others?? (if you've read this far)

...and me getting passed! LOL!
Had a great time. It was a good track to learn on, especially on Sunday. Good group of guys to hang out with as well. Looking forward to Barber in November.

I was stuck behind the GT for several laps one time.... this was the driver of the GT in either group 1 or 2 -- can't remember which run group, anyway this driver was not Jim Bauer, the car's owner-- I believe it was his friend who was not familiar with the car.
It was fun for me to chase it even though I was having to slow down thru the turns, just because it's so nice to look at while going around a legendary road course. The driver's instructor should have made him point me past but he didn't. Oh well, like I said, I enjoyed running with it for several laps.
