2002 S6 Avant CV joint replacement cost listing
I have 87K on my 2002 S6 Avant. I finally needed to replace my right front axle. Of course this happened immediately prior to a major road trip and I ended up having to rent a car to facilitate it. Anyway, because people are always looking for this information, here is what it ended up putting me back. And the mechanic said that the axle was far beyond useful life and I was lucky to have made the last few hundred miles and I certainly would not have made my DC to Buffalo NY road trip without the repairs.
Another note, I ended up using RAXLES to replace my axle. There is a nationwide shortage of the parts required to replace CV's right now with Audi and I suggested RAXLES to my mechanic. He had only heard of them with high performance applications but was willing to give it a shot to avoid the Audi ordering delay from Germany. He ended up saying that the RAXLES Axle was the best axle he had dealt with and will start recommending them to customers who want an OEM alternative. He said that RAXLES was better than what he would have expected from Audi.
RAXLES Axle $229
Replace both Right Upper control arm w/ BJ and Bushing $130.98
Control arm w/ BJ and Bushings $104
Replace both Left Upper control arm w/ BJ and Bushing $104.55
Control arm w/ BJ and Bushing $103.80
Advanced Alignment $172.42
I opted to get additional work done at the same time to save some labor:
Replace both front brake hoses and fluid flush $172
Replace rear brake pads and rotors $314
Replace cruise control arm 68.83
All said with labor and a 90K service it set me back $2,715.18.
Car drives fantastic once again with no clicking noises going into a turn or up a hill.
Oh and because all of you know that bushing are independent of the CV joint, all were torn completely through so I had them replaced as the labor was already being executed.

BassAkward...unless your water pump failed out of scheduled maintenance, one generally has the WP replaced with the TB.
Why replace a water pump unless you're doing a TB/etc. on scheduled maintenance? WPs seldom fail if they're replaced with the TB.

Water pump intake valve failed. Entire unit needed to be replaced. It was at 75K miles. I replaced the timing belt at the same time.

Ahh. At least the clock for the TB service got restarted at 75K....Interesting that the water pump has an intake valve on it.
