Rival Motorsport and I would like to announce the 6th annual Bear Mountain drive, featuring some of the most scenic, and challenging roads anywhere around. Look forward to one of the most exciting drives possible, and this years will hopefully be even better than those drives in the past.

The meet will begin promptly at 8am at Franklin D. Roosevelt State Park (Parking lot #6, which is the same parking lot that last years drive began and ended), located in Northern Westchester County, in the town of Yorktown Heights. The park is located directly off of the Taconic State Parkway, and is easily accessible from NYC, CT, and points North. Directions can be obtained from www.mapquest.com, the address for the park is:

2957 Crompond Road
Yorktown Heights, NY 10598

I request all to arrive promptly at 8am for the meet and greet, as we plan to start the drive within an hour. The drive will start through some side roads until we reach the area that the fun begins, a twisty mountain road that climbs up the edge of the Hudson River, the drive will than find its way to one of the most incredible roads I have ever seen, route 218/Storm King, after this the drive switches gears into scenic/twisty road mode, where we will cruise to Seven Lakes Drive for some great views, eventually turning back and finding some more curvy roads. The drive should take approximately 2 hours to complete, but past years have proven that there is no way to know exactly how long the drive will actually take. So, I would leave this day open for only this event. The drive will end back at FDR Park, where all those who want to can attend lunch at one of the local establishments.

Those that choose to attend please remember that though many of us drive capable modified cars, we cannot deny the laws of physics. Simply put, we look to have a ton of fun on the road, but not at the expense of the safety (or perhaps sanity) of anyone in the drive, or any bystanders.

Please email me at cliffs2 006@allencollects.com if you would like to attend and I will respond with the dates of the drive along with any new information I might have. If you have any questions about the drive, or any input, feel free to email me or post on the NY/NJ/CT Forum Forum on AudiWorld which is also where updates will be posted. If you don't receive a response from me via email please post on the NY/NJ/CT Forum to let me know.

*Would you like to tempt fate on the edge of one of the most scenic roads in the entire country? Over 30 miles of non stop twists and turns on the side of a mountain, with nothing between you and a 300 foot drop into the Hudson River but Quattro and a few strategically placed rock barriers and rusty old guardrails. High speed cornering with one of the best backdrops in the North East, and more apexes and elevation changes than you know what to do with.

As this years sponsor, Rival Motorsport will be providing three prizes at the end of the drive that will be drawn using raffle tickets. As you leave the park to start the drive each car will receive ONE raffle ticket (only one per car). And as an incentive to not lose anyone in your group, each car will also receive a raffle ticket when they get back to the park WITH THEIR ENTIRE GROUP. There will also be other ways to score more tickets, but you won't know what they are until the end of the drive when we reward them.

This year we will be driving in smaller groups with more experienced leaders who have driven the route a few times in the past few months. These smaller groups will make it easier to get out of the park and to Cornwall Landing (about 22 miles into the drive). Doing this last year helped us avoid having to block Route 202 just to get all of out and lined up on a shoulder. Once at Cornwall Landing we can take the remaining part of the drive together, but still in a way broken up in the smaller groups. This should also allow other groups to keep going if one of the groups happens to get pulled over, which we hope WON'T happen!

I urge everyone to have a good and fully charged walkie talkie for the drive b/c I can't stress enough how important it is for groups to stay in contact with each other on regular intervals. Remember the person leading doesn't know what's going on with the last car in that group. So, if the 2nd to last car doesn't see the last car, please radio ahead to wait up. If for some reason you can't reach your group leader then just radio to anybody in your group you can reach and have them pass on the message. We lost some people this way last year and I don't want it to happen again. Remember, an incentive not to lose your group this year is that you will earn that 2nd raffle ticket and double your chances to win one of the three prizes.

The leaders of each group will communicate by cell phone (if they work) ONLY for updates on their group and emergencies (other then that they should be concentrating on the drive). Walkie talkie channels will be determined by the group leaders and you will be notified of them the day of the drive by your group leader. Everyone should then test the walkie talkies to make sure you can all hear each other. It would be great if everyone on the drive was on the same frequency, but that might cause confusion if for some reason you hear a group other then yours.

PLEASE FOLLOW THIS GOOD ADVISE TO HELP YOU NOT LOSE YOUR GROUP: Leaders and groups...when on two or more lane roads I urge everyone to stay behind the car that was in front of them and for everyone in that group to stay in the right lane. Yes, even if there is a really slow car in front of the group. There aren't a lot of these two lane roads but it only takes one to lose somebody. Also, at times groups pass slower non-COI participant cars in front of them. If your group does this make sure you have everyone in your group before turning onto the next road. If your next turn is off of a traffic circle and you're not sure if you have everyone, the group can keep circling the traffic circle until the entire group is caught up.

For those with the RNS-E (DVD) Nav, I will again be providing step-by-step instructions on how to enter the route using stopovers with 6-7 separate routes. This information will be emailed out to all on my response list a few days before the drive. Leave yourself around an hour to enter it in for first timers. I know an hour sounds like a long time to sit their and enter in map coordinates, but after you do it once you will have the drive stored and you can take it any time you want. This will also reduce the chance of you getting lost, although it isn't fool proof......Ed ;-)
