2000 Audi A4..2.8 30v engine. Anyone familiar with the auxillary water pump/after run pump? Doesn't seem to be much info on it. I don't ever hear it run, but from what I understand, it should kick on when I turn the key on. Might have an effect on heat at low speeds. Any additional info would be appreciated. Thanks..

As the name implies, the pump only runs after the car has been shut off. It only runs if there are very high temps in the engine compartment.

If you are havings issues with heat at low speeds, bleed the cooling system.
