Default Where to start on modding my engine....

I have an 01 1.8t and have yet to do anything to the engine. I was thinking about getting an air intake system but I can't seem to find many online at least. There aren't many shops around here that specialize or know anything about Audis either. My friend was telling me to get a blow off valve too. Anyone have any advice on where to start to see the most gains on about a $500 or less budget??

Default NO BOV! and intakes are useless due to teh air intake being right next to the turbo...

DV, SS, Exhaust (supersprint is cheap), k&n drop in panel, k04 upgrade, get creative and search the b5 forum.

Default Well it seems as if my turbo isn't even working anymore!

What is there that I could do about this? And how long are they supposed to last cuz my friend has an '00 1.8t and his went out about a month ago. Mine is an '01t. What causes turbos to run out anyway? Does this mean I should just go ahead and upgrade to a K04...

Default There is nothing wrong with an intake with proper heat shielding.. and some BOV's can be "ok"..

Make a heat shield, use the factory cold air vent and your good to go. As far as the BOV it's a touchy subject. TIAL, GFB, and HKS make some damn good BOV's that need to be tuned correctly for proper functionality. My opinion.. if you dont have a 1.8 putting out 350+hp there is no need or reason.

Cheers,
Joel

Default Here you go:

The main reason why turbo's go south is due to improper use:

-Not allowing your oil to heat up to operating temps before going to full boost.

-putting your car through it's paces without allowing it to cool down before turning the engine off

As for a K04, it's not worth the upgrade on an 01 due to the fact that you have a "K03 sport".

Seriously, do yourself a favor and use the <img src="https://www.audiworld.com/pix/2nd_nav_search2.gif"> button at the top of the page.

Just type BOV or Blow Off Valve, and select the A4 B5 forum, and the date range.

Here is one post I had from someone else asking about BOV's:

For Pretty much any information you have about first time mods, bookmark this page the B5 FAQ:
