Default Help needed on a 2234 - Right Headlight power output stage - error

Hi all - New here, so go easy on me.

'06 RS4.

My daughter (3 yrs old) was in the car turning the lights on and off - on one occasion the right hand xenon failed to ignite. The car threw an error on the screen. I turned the lights off for 10 minutes - fired them back up and everything is fine except the error is still present and the adaptive function of the lights no longer works. I assumed the xenon failed to ignite only because she was flicking them on and off rapidly.

I should point out that the lights still perform standard leveling and self test when the car is started.

When I clear the error while the lights are on (vehicle running) they do a little dance and then it "re faults" [or perhaps I'm not clearing the fault properly on VCDS - i'm pretty new to the software]

From the outside I can't see anything wrong - and I thought I'd ask any of the experts out there what their view is?

Don't see much hope there...

http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/02234

...you might need a new output stage (the module attached to the headlight assembly).

Oh... that's bad news I guess. I called up Audi spare parts - that module is $1,000 - might have to find some other place to source one from.

Which country has the cheapest Audi spares?

Lastly, Can anyone point me in the right direction as to the procedure to code up (including security) a new J668 module?

Thankyou for all your help...

Chris James.

That price doesn't sound right at all. Mind posting a complete Auto-Scan please?

Full scan below...

In my enthusiasm I re-coded the module 55 (to try to make the problem go away) and it obviously removed all the headlight adjustments - so its now throwing a "01539 - Headlights Not Adjusted" - Which is a new error.
Unfortunately when i try learning the new adjustment (enter security, Basic Settings 04) I get an ERROR Group 001 not available. I'm putting this down to the fact that the system wont allow a basic settings to be done while there is a "faulty" module.

So annoying that everything appears to be working perfectly - I've tested all the bulbs, the adaptive and levelling motors all function correctly when forced to move.

The Adjustment will not work unless you get the "Defective" Fault taken care of. As expected, your Output Stage was superseded, so 8E0-941-329 gets replaced with 8E0-907-391-C which then was superseded again by 8P0-907-391.

8P0-907-391 is about 315 EUR (excl. VAT) here in Germany. Used parts are usually available for half that or less.

Some suppliers are even cheaper...

Thank you - that part number matches what my local dealer gave me.

Is it true that it's very difficult to remove the headlight assembly without taking off the from bumper?

According to the repair manual it should be straight forward, take the headlight out and then replace the module attached to it. There are some additional steps like ptotective tape to ensure the paint isn't damaged in the process but all those details can be found in the repair manual if needed.

Haven't done it myself but I would guess that it takes 1-2 hours to get that done for somebody who hasn't done it before. So the 1000 USD quote you got sounds really high to me...

Can anything be determined from the "Fault Status: 11101110" ?

The Fault Status translates to "014 - Defective - MIL ON".
