Default Could bad O2 sensors cause a car to act wierd and stall???

After a few days without problems, I started today after work and it was possessed. The car idled between 200-800 - up and down as if someone were playing with the throttle (DBW always make me worry). When the car was in gear and moved it was fine. FInally after a few miles of stop and go - I finally came to a full stop and it died.

I quicky tried to restart - it started and the idle was steady - no problems. Ok - so I continue how and it starts again about 1/2 hour later. Finally, a few miles before home - the CEL comes and stays.

Hook up the VAG and - Fault codes shown are:

17521 - Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor: B1 S1: Internal Resistance too High
P1113 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
17535 - Fuel Trim: Bank 1 (Mult): System too Rich
P1127 - 35-00 - -
17537 - Fuel Trim: Bank 2 (Mult): System too Rich
P1129 - 35-00 - -
17547 - Fuel Trim: Bank 2 (Add): System too Lean
P1139 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
16684 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
P0300 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
16686 - Cylinder 2 Misfire Detected
P0302 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
17539 - Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor: B2 S1: Internal Resistance too High
P1131 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent

Is this simply the O2 sensors? Seems pretty spooky for just an O2 sensor - but i guess you never know.

Thanks all.

Default What was the last thing you did to the car, and when?

Very odd that you're getting those codes on BOTH banks at the SAME time. Have you checked the wiring harnesses on the firewall?

Try unplugging your MAF sensor and see if it improves. Just my 2 cents...

Default I just replaced my maf plug. Looks like a dead maf to vag-com and....

responds well to being unplugged. It was definatly a dirty german trick.

Default Haven't touch the car in ages - except the periodic oil/filter chages -

I have had bad MAFS before and it never acted this wierd. Obviously the MAF is the second part of the O2 sensor equation for engining mapping.

The computer uses a stored map when the MAF is unplugged (i.e. the car runs fine without the MAF plugged in) - does it do the same for unplugging O2 sensors?

Default IIRC, unplugging the O2 sensors would cause it to run in open loop, so it wouldn't

necessarily be better, but it would actually run. If the ECU got weird signals from the O2 sensors, I would think it'd just go nuts itself.
How many miles on the car? Might be time for new O2's.
Oh, clear the DTCs and run them again.
