So i was looking under the car for the coolent leak and noticed it right away.... its dripping every 2 seconds when runnung motor. and its comming from under where the big motor belt pulley is located right behind the two radiator fans on the driver side. does any1 know what it could be. Ill take a pic of it today to show you guys exactly where its at. Id just like to know what im dealing with and see if I can fix it myself or take it to the mech. and what its going to run me... It could be the water (coolant) pump and it won't be easy (read: cheap) to get to. Not a job for a beginner. Might be a good idea to do the timing belt at the same time as it won't add much to the cost.

Don't know about the pump alone but a good price for the belt job is $1000-$1200 (all in). Pick two reputable VW/Audi shops and ask them to quote you. If you haven't done the belt yet, do it (116K!).

I wouldn't call it typical, but wouldn't call it atypical. Which is why it is recommended that you replace the water pump (and tensioner) when you do the timing belt. Also, I am 100% in agreement with gingerman to do the timing belt.
