Default 2005 A6 timing Chain Repair

I bought my A6 brand new and haven't had any problems until now. About a year ago there was a grinding noise when I started the car about 25% of the time. Of course the car was still under warranty then and the dealer said they couldn't hear the noise. 6 months ago the grinding noise was still going on and the chekc engine light came on. I took the car to the dealer and they said it was something the camshaft sensor and it was replaced, but the grinding was going on and they basically said at this point to not worry about.

The check engine light came on last weekend and I took my car to the dealer and they suspected that there was a problem with the timing chain.

How much should it cost to have the timing chain replaced?

Since the timing chains are on the rear of the block, it probably is a labor intensive job to access and repair. Most likely part that may be worm and is causing the grinding the noise is a chain tensioner.

This doesn't directly answer your question, but find a new dealer. My old audi dealer was like that too, everything came back "could not duplicate" and then they would charge me a diagnostics fee. Or they would have me replace two to three parts before the switched. For example to fix my auto up down drivers window. Replaced the door pad, and even the regulator or something. BTW its still broken. Really find a new dealer.
