Greetings...

Well the wheels are coming off the cart soon after my extended warranty expired. I'm trying to fix what I can and off to the dealer for the rest.

The latest big problem is my MMI and all associated buttons, bluetooth and lights are not working. The screen is in the up position and off.

I rented a VAG tool and everything related to the MMI says "cannot be reached".

So, one of my questions is...is there a way to pinpoint which component of the MMI system has failed using the VAG tool? Below is part of the report. Looks like I need brakes and a secondary air pump too (engine light?)

Is this the correct forum for this inquiry?

Maybe the battery? Looks like the MMI quit about the same time as that third battery fault.

Lots of posts over the years about a variety of gremlins that ultimately get tied to a battery on its way out. Have you checked yours, or has it run down on you recently. If so and/or its more than 4-5 years old, consider replacing. May or may not fix other stuff, but if it shows distress signs, its days are numbered anyway.

After resolving that, I would clear all the codes and then see what comes back and/or functions.

On your brakes, look at them physically. Are the rear pads pretty worn down or not? If not, it's not uncommon to see some codes there (mine too), especially if any prior difficulty reseting the pad thickness setting in back when replacing pads.

On air pump, not too many seem to report the failure is ultimately there. Those codes also come up when there are issues in either the vacuum lines or in the intake plumbing--loose clamps and such. Check those areas first and then clear the related codes and see if they come back--takes several driving cycles to confirm either way (and turn on CEL).

Have you checked fuses? Start with fuse 12 in the dashboard right fuse box. It is for MMI Control Module (7).

I'll check the fuse...

The battery hasn't exhibited signs of failure but it is old and I have some codes so I'll change that next. I imagine aftermarket is okay? If not please comment.

Where would I find the Secondary Air pump and hoses...under the airbox? So I'll need to remove the front underbody panel?

Sorry for all the questions.....I haven't worked on this car much, or at all.

Fuse #12 is good......bought a new battery and will replace it today...fingers are crossed.

Checked fuse, okay. Installed a new battery and no change.

Cleared the CEL and it has remained off...bought new rear brake pads, I'll handle that later.

Re-scanned after the battery and have two new faults: I'm headed in the wrong direction!!

As far as I can see problem is here. Nothing from your optical ring can be reached. You should find optical loop and try bypassing modules one at the time. Start in the trunk it is easiest. Phone is underneath drivers carpet and the rest behind the glove box. If the system start s working it is bypassed module. Or at the end MMI Control Module. I hope this helps.

How exactly do I bypass a component? Is there an "in" and "out" cable?

If so wouldn't that leave the circuit open? Is a coupling necessary?
