Default What does holding down ESP button for more than 30 seconds DO?

When I push it once, the ESP light comes on. OK, that's ESP off.
Now if I hold it down for over 30 seconds, the ESP light in the dash goes off, and will not come on again no matter how long I press the button.
Does that mean the traction control is off as well???
Only when I TURN OFF THE ENGINE AND RESTART THE CAR, then the ESP is back to normal.

Anyone try this???

I haven't tested out if the ESP intervenes in any of these modes.
If someone has please enlighten me.
Thanks.

Default On the B5...

When you hold the button down, eventually the light goes out, but we verified that ESP came back on, and you had to turn the car off to get the button to work again.

I'd imagine the B6 is the same way. Speculation is that it's a safety against a short in the button, so you don't have traction control always get turned off. Audi doesn't want the liability from having the traction turn off like that.

On my RX-8, it's the opposite, it turns off all the traction control stuffs, and they wont come on again until the car is restarted.

Default Does that mean...

when u do a slide sideways, the ESP will be reactivated?
If so, that means the ESP is not switched off at all!
So, what is the difference between the 1st mode = ESP light ON
and the 2nd mode = ESP light OFF (prolonged press)?

Has anyone done acceleration times between all the different modes of ESP?

Thanks.

Default I did try this...someone mentioned this before, maybe it was an A4

anyway I got the same results as you but I haven't had the opportunity to verify if ESP comes back on under hard driving.

Default Even with the ESP light out after you have pushed it in for more than 30 seconds...

It will still be ready to jump in and do its thing. The EDL portion of the ESP, which uses ABS sensors is always active, regardless of the ESP switch position. EDL works up to 50 mph.

Default It means that anytime you are using the brakes, ESP will *ALWAYS* be active.

There was lots of speculation on the effects of this on the B5 S4 boards a couple of years ago, but we discovered that there are really only 2 modes - always on (default) or off during driving without the brakes being applied.

The second you have activated the brakes (no matter how hard or lightly that may be) ESP is an active system and will intervene depending on what your car is doing.

With ESP switched off at the dash, ESP will not intervene if you are not braking.

Default I brought this up a while ago in reference to my A4

It looks as if my question was answered.

Default At least ESP on the B6 wasn't messing you up in that one turn, was it?

Well, I mean with ESP 'off'.
