Default Ouch!! Just hit a curb HARD and bent my wheel ... what have I done?

Snowing hard here in Vancouver and sheer ice under the snow, I just learned.

I came out of my driveway and started down the hill that we live on. The car broke loose and started to slide ... ABS wouldn't do anything, in terms of stopping or steering the car.

I had the wheel turned hard to the left, trying to turn away from the oncoming curb, but could not turn or stop. I hit the curb hard with my right front wheel, with the wheel turned to the left. I thought about hitting it straight on, but there is a large Armco guard rail there and was afraid I would go over the curb and hit that as well.

At this point the car is not driveable. I managed to get it back into my garage, but the wheel is jammed back in the wheel well and is rubbing hard on the inside fender liner -- it has rubbed through the liner. I pulled the wheel off to see if there was anything broken, but cannot see any visible damage. Nothing is obvioiusly broken, or even bent, but of course it must be.

So ... some information or advice would be helpful. Any good guesses on what I have done and the extent of the damage? I will report it to my insurance company, but may not be worthwhile having them get involved.

I appreciate any advice / information from anyone out there.

Yes ... I have a call into them and will talk to an adjuster on Monday. I expect it will be expensive to fix.

I have been replaying it and replaying it ... had a terrible sleep. I think the biggest thing is that I feel betrayed by the car. I have never had a problem with in in ice or snow. BUT ... I still have not had my snow tires put on, so was running on all season Yokohamas.

And, from what I can tell, the area I slid was being used by kids all afternoon for sliding -- what they did was essentially polish the snow into sheer ice. And then it snowed heavily on top of that. So there was nothing for the tires to grip at all.

All fixable, I just hope I can get it done quickly.

Default Wheel is back on, and I am not inclined to pull it off again ...

I am squeezed in the garage working on the car, with my shiny new 997S sitting beside it -- I don't want to pull that out to make room to work. I would REALLY be pissed if I screwed up the Porsche!

Default And downhill, no less! Still, an unfortunate event. I'm always paranoid about going downhill, ...

... even with snow tires on.

Sounds like insurance will cover it for LCB, thankfully.

Default Betrayed by the car because it didn't grip on sloped "polished ice" with snow on top?

That's an odd way to look at it.

Sorry you jacked up your wheel/suspension. It can be fixed without too much difficutly I would think. Better than body work.
