Default Should I Click the VCDS Version Update Button?

I have a 2005 A8. I have no problems with my Vag-Com VCDS software. Sure there are advanced functions I have not used, but as far as I know there is no problem with the version I have.

I have version 11.16 and it wants me to upgrade to version 12.12.

Is it always good to upgrade or are there downsides to upgrading now for a car that is 8 years old? I am wondering if there is a point where I will start to loose functionality for my particular vehicle. Seems like the upgrades are for capabilities to address new model years and the new features that come out.

Does anyone have experience on upside or downside to upgrading VCDS software?

Go ahead and upgrade!..as long as you have a genuine Ross cable...:-)
Program will start to nag about being to old if you don't...
Never so far had any issues so far....
And if there where any I bet Ross tech would fix them!
Cheers!/H

We have been supporting and adding support for all model years since the program was introduced in 2000. We give the updates away for free because we want you to use the latest and the best. As hrc4u pointed out, if there were issues, we would issue a new update to fix it - it's our commitment to our customers/registered users. Update and keep your tool performing at top and best performance.
