RNS-D to RNS-E upgrade
Hi!
I own a 2002 EU allroad with Navi+, bose, trunk 6 CD changer, phone, TV tuner, etc. (all options).
I recently bought a RNS-E EU P unit, and a few items from Kufatec:
- 1 x Navi plus/RNS-E Antennendapter
- 1 x RNS-E Adapter f?r Audi A6 C5
- 1 x Video In Adapter f?r TV Tuner
When I tried to do the upgrade it yesterday, I saw everything was pretty much PnP, except for the multimedia connection; on the RND-D is a 26 pins connectior, while on the RND-E is a 32 pins one.
Is there a way I can still make the upgrade while keeping the OEM analog TV tuner?
If not, what do I need to do to have TV on my car? Dietz 1417 + Blaupunkt ME3? If this is the case, what a waste...
Please advice.
Thanks,
ByteNick

Re: RNS-D to RNS-E upgrade
The OEM TV tuner talks to the headunit via CAN. Unfortuantely has the CAN protocal changed so that the old (RND-D) TV tuner won't be able to talk to your RNS-E. Even if you fix the issue with the incorrcet plug you would still need a new TV tuner (index C) for the RNS-E.
You have two options:
- Dietz 1417 for a single video source (in the A6 you don't need the 1280 for video in motionsince you can cut the speed wire to get the same result)
- Dietz IMU with digital tv tuner (controlled via RNS-E or IR remote) which will give you two additional video inputs.
Both options are less expensive than upgrading the OEM tv tuner.

Any RNS-D to RNS-E upgrade pictures available?
Thanks for the rapid answer.
As I am advancing with the upgrade, a few more questions are coming up:
1. Is there an upgrade installation from Navi+ (RNS-D) to RNS-E somewhere? Everything I saw is starting from Chorus or Symphony, and it does not look like my setup. I am asking this because I have a doubt regarding what Kufatec delivered to me. Even though I have clearly indicated that my Navi+ system includes Bose, Phone, CD changer, TV tuner etc, the adapter they sent has only two couplers, whereas the photos I've seen on the installation procedures show three, sometimes four.
2. Where exactly the OEM TV tuner is located? I'd like to see what version is before ordering the Dietz stuff.
Thanks again.

Thanks, but not what I am looking for...
because ugrading from RNS-D directly to RNS-E is different.
I am now convinced that nobody did a DIY with pictures, so I will try to figure it alone. I will also read whatever is available, so I can get more info.
Thanks.

OEM hands-free phone BT upgrade.
Any idea if I can upgrade the existing OEM, non bluetooth, phone hands-free to a bluetooth one?
What I have seen up until now is for cars without OEM phone.
Any info on the upgrade?
Thanks.

You can install the BT tel module... it will replace your existing setup
What I'm saying is that it's not really an "upgrade" to your existing TEL system. You'll basically be able to disconnect your existing TEL interface box when you install the new BT TEL module. The only part you can consider retaining is your built in microphone.
