G12 vs. Dexcool Coolant ????
I know this has been covered before but I am mighty confused over completely contradictory information relative to G12 vs. Dexcool coolant. I found a Havoline Dexcool PDF sheet stating that it is completely compatible with G12 but read in other sites not to mix the two. I don't know if it's a question of mixing the two or replacing one with the other.
I removed my radiator to get to my aux fan. When I put it back together, can I add Dexcool or MUST I use only Audi/VW G12 coolant? Is my cooling system effectively drained or is half of it still in my engine? Any definitive info would be helpful.
BTW, big thanks to the tech section articles on removing the front of the car!

Some of the coolant is still in the engine block.
If you really want to drain everything, you'll need to loosen the drain bolt on the water pump. As for Dexcool, you may be able to use it if you flush the system clean first. I would just stick to Audi/VW/Pentosin G12 coolant though.

I called Havoline/Shell/Texaco...
whatever they're called now. Their tech guy (engineer/chemist) confirmed that Dex-Cool is 100% compatible with G12. He said if the radiator is drained, Dex-Cool can be added without any worries.
