Service light - 2007 S8
Yes.... I've searched, and I apologize in advance for my ignorance..... but I've received a lot of conflicting information:
1) the dealer has to do it
2) you need a special tool
3) push and hold the odometer button
4) complete above.... and then turn the key
5) say "abracadabra", spin twice, and play barry manilow backwards.
Not sure what to think. I've had the car about 8k miles (about to turn 80k on the clock)... I plan on doing the oil this weekend. I just want to get educated on how to turn off this warning... or it will drive me crazy.
By the way.... this isn't a check engine light.... just the normal "Service!" Warning that displays for a moment after startup... and then goes away.

I believe the service interval needs to be reset with vag-com, or by a dealer. I'm not sure if there is a special process by pushing a few buttons to turn it off on the A8/S8 models.

Either the dealer or someone with VAG-COM/VCDS or equivalent system/software. Presumably many indy mechanics who deal with later model VW's and Audis will have this, and most of us serious DIY'ers buy the VAG COM cable over time.
Unusually among later Audi's I owned, you could turn off the service interval display with the push the button stuff on the millennium era C5 A6. Probably meant the older D2 A8 as well. But on the D3, you need the tool/equipment.
And to be clear, I mean the service interval message stuff, not the check engine light (CEL). The latter often needs the same tool/equipment, unless it is a minor issue that in the OBDII coding world is permitted to self clear after a counted number of successful running cycles with no evidence of an issue.

Thanks folks. I'm going to pick up one of those VCDS cables and the necessary software. I'm sure ross-tech is likely the best available product..... but for my purposes.. I found one for about $80.
Also need to pick up a set of plugs.... and the suction pump for a topside oil change. That'lL be a first for me as well.
