Default Alcantara nirvana!

Got the car back from the upholsterer today, with Alcantara inserted in the driver seat. Heavenly! Feels soft and silky like suede with grip, but most of all, it is fabric and can breathe. Now summer can come.

While I was at his shop--he is a German master craftsman, traditionally trained in Germany in this trade from the ground up, who only does high-line cars. Has done >$50K interiors for Ferraris and stuff--he showed me my seat cover as it was apart and being altered. Praised Audi's quality of the seat in so many details. Also commented on the base of the body underneath the seat, where the electrical connections are made, and found everything the highest quality of anything he has seen, in any of the cars he has modified in his 12 years in this business. And he was surprised to see that level of quality in even the smallest Audi. Normally, you'd expect that in the flagships only.

He uses original, authentic materials, purchased from the same vendors that Audi purchases from. Alcantara from the Italian manufacturer. The same yarns that Audi uses to sew their seats. Proper airbag yarn in the areas where side airbags deploy (a specific yarn that will break easily when needed). The whole seat looks better than stock. I paid $400 for the job and it is well worth it and money well spent. I hate to sit on leather, when it is cold, as well as when it is hot.

Now I'm just waiting for him to find the right leather to redo my shifter boot (which is off on the picture below). I want it in hot red, matching the seatbelt lock and hazard light button. Pictures of that will follow.

Default But my car was, say, $16K less, and it has DSG :p

Love your S4 Avant!

I always liked the Alcantara on the S4s and actually, that's where I got the idea. I was frustrated to see that they offered Alcantara on the European A3s, but not in NA--until I came across this upholsterer. Now I'm happy.
