Default 8 yr/80,000 mile federal emissions warranty - how to count miles?

Hi,

I left many codes for the dealer to digest/fix during my recent service. I was getting the Timing Belt service and the 80K service at same time.

Turned out that a vacuum hose had "popped off" somewhere (how do vacuum hoses "pop off"). The tech. had left by the time I retieved the car so I don't know what hose it was.

The diagnostic notes say that they fixed a vaccum leak but if the "cat efficiency code" returns then the cat needs replacing".

I bought the car new with 5,400 miles on it.

The dealer says the 8/80 federal emissions warranty goes to the first of either 8 years from the in-service date or 80k inidcated miles and I argued that my experience with the 4/50K warranty was that the warranty goes to 4 years from in-service date or to in-service mileage plus 50K miles.

Any insight here? Especially from those that fought to get 8/80 work completed.

Here is the mess of codes I left them :-). They only addressed a vaccum leak so I wonder what other ones will return.

/dan

Default that stinks...my cats went as well this past

nov I think...maybe it was Dec...anyway it was at 83K.....yeah, go figure. so I did what any other cheap bastard would do, bought a VAG-COM and reset the light every other week after reading codes....if they replace the cats and sensor's you're looking at way over $3K......

Default Just had a CAT replaced at 75k miles......

and the EPA Warranty is just that... an EPA warranty on total miles, not miles since in service -- ie: demo sold at reduced price with 5k miles - so EPA warranty ends at 80k, not 85k miles with the extra 5k added.

Tough luck.... that's an expensive bill if you get it done at the dealer beyond 80k.

My cost was $50 bucks. ($50 bucks to clear the code, generate a "ready" signal, generate a work order (shop ticket #) to submit a warranty claim, and wait for the code to trip again)

Default how long till the code re-appeared?

Do I have to wait for the full OBD cycle to run all its tests? I hope it comes on quickly - at least within 1400 miles :-).

Default Let me put it this way. picked up Mon @ 8am, dropped back off @ 4pm.

I drove it at lunch about 40 miles or so and the CEl returned. Of course, they also test drove it after the reset about 100 miles (I asked them the service manager to drive it a few days over the weekend to see if he could just keep it in the shop).

Anyhow.... I only had right side CAT replaced under the EPA warranty. I have 4k miles to see if the other one fails. =) maybe I'll put 87 octane gas in her and see if that trips the code again. ....naaaawww.... that wouldn't be right.
