Default The ESP will turn back on if it feels that you are losing control. It will apply brakes and such to

help if something feels wrong for the car. It's just another safety net.

Default leave it on unless u are gonna drive on a track...

it u turn it off it allows your car to "slide" thru the turns.. i think the ESP corrects it so that it straightens out your car.

Default

prevents wheelspin - can't launch with it on - cuts power when wheels slip

Default Near the limit...

ESP will kick in and apply brake/trottle adustments to keep you out of trouble. It will also kick in during really hard launches if it detects wheel spin during a drag race. Just remember that it's always on.....you need to hit the button everytime you start the car if you don't want it kicking in.

Default quattro transfers power front to back or back to front....

the presence of ESP, aside from braking and throttle, also transfers power from side to side in the event that is required.

Default Turn it off if you want to drive as if you were on a track :-)

It's really annoying when it kicks in on sharp turns that you want to take aggressively. It seems to briefly kill the throttle and with it your ability to power out.

Default Actually, ESP isn't for transferring power from side-to-side...

...the EBD (Electronic Brake-force Distribution) system takes care of that via the ABS sensors and your brakes.

Default Are you saying it'll turn itself back on and help you out?

A friend and I took his S4 out in the snow, and had some fun - ESP was turned off and stayed off.

Default I stand corrected then.....

I don't even have ESP. Can't think of many occasions when I ever needed it. I think the quattro in itself is fantastic. My guess is that Audi had no choice but to throw in some sort of traction control for marketing purposes, knowing full well that the cars were already safe enough.
