Default SQ5 tire 255/40 R21

I was surprised that there are only two manufacturers of tires size 255/40R21 and the price is high: Dunlop - 340 Euro and Pirelli - 430 Euro per piece
SQ5 tire 255/40 R21
-Dunlop SP SPORT MAXX GT
-Pirelli P ZERO

Yep, 'tis true at this time!

I spoke to the customer service department at Michelin and begged them to make both the Pilot Super Sport and Sport AS 3 in this size. They do have several 21-inch sizes in the Super Sport but the sidewall (?) sizes are not correct. They passed my request on to the appropriate department for consideration.

My hope is that multiple tire manufacturers will begin making 21-inch tires in the proper size in the next 12-24 months. We'll just have to wait and see!

Unfortunately, you get to "Pay" for an SQ5 initially and on an on-going basis.

Yup.

One consolation for me is that I will be running 19" winter tires at least 5 months of the year, delaying the pain.

Now if only winter wheels and tires were free. :-(

Just a note of caution... I went on an extended test drive in the SQ5 with the 21" Dunlops and the road noise coming from them was significant at times on the freeway, so be sure you take a test drive first and are happy with the road noise.

FWIW... I got a lot of road noise from the Bridgestone Dueler tiers on my 2012 Q5 S-Line (20") as well - to the point where I wouldn't by them as replacements. The noise I heard from the Dunlops at times was similar.

Michelins were better.

I agree - the Dunlop 21's have a lot of roar...
Luckily I enjoy my music at high volume so it doesn't bother me too much.

Do you have anecdotal or real evidence that 19" wheels will fit on the SQ5, with those pretty, huge brake calipers? Tire Rack has not measured one yet so could not tell me whether it will 19". Certainly the 20" wheels will fit...that is stock.

I'm not surprised about the price. And I do like the sticky summer tires vs. the all seasons that came on my 2.0.
