From a TSB (91 09 2019821/1 January 8, 2009)

Condition
The Bluetooth telephone bonding tone is too loud or quiet for the customer

Technical Background
Whe a telephone is connected to the vehicle via the Bluetooth wireless connection, a tone is played over the audio system. The volume of this tone correlates to the volume level of the phone preparation voice control. This volume level is independent of the volume during telephone calls.

Service
On standard vehicles:
The volume of the bonding tone can be raised or lowered by changing the voice control volume level.
1. Activate the phone preparation voice control using the Talk button on the steering wheel and raise or lower the volume to an acceptable level.
2. Explain the correlation between the bondingin tone and voice control volume level to the customer.

On convertible vehicles:
Voice control is disableded on convertible models sucha st the A4 Cabriolet an TT roadster. On these vehicles, the bonding tone volume level can be changed using the following procedure:
1. Temporarily enable voice control by changing the Bluetooth phone preparation module coding. Only position 2 must be changed to a value of 7: Vehicle Self Diagnosis>>77-Telephone>>007-Coding>>XXXX7X.
2. Exit the diagnosis session and cycle the vehicle ignition
3. Activate voice control using the Talk button on the steering wheel and say the command Help.
4. While the system is playing the help message, raise or lower the volume level to an acceptable level. The right-side steering wheel thumbwheel or the radio volume **** can be used.
5. Exit the voice control dialogue by pressing the Talk button again.
6. change the control module coding back to the original value: Vehicle Self Diagnosis>>77-Telephone>>007-Coding>>XXXX0X.
7. Exit the diagnosis session and cycle the vehicle ignition. Verify the talk button is inactive and that the bonding volume is now acceptable to the customer.

IT WORKS!!
