The choice carried over to the A4 as well.

Just FYI, Europe never had a B4 90, they were all called 80, from the smallest 4 cyl all the way up to 2.8 V6.
The other two B4 based models in Europe were the S2 and RS2.

My '93 has cast REAR arms while the new style on later B4 and A4 are stamped steel.
Bushings for both versions are different and probably the diference in bolt...

I drive with it on when the roads are snow covered, it helps to to initiate oversteer (much better than understeer) and it disables the ABS (I don't have ABS kill switch on mine) which I hate on...

I have no idea.
Alloy units are lighter and were more common due to numbers built.
Cast iron were the early units.
