How long has Audi been using this engine?

I know that there have been changes made to it over the years. Is there a link that will how the history of Audi's 4.2L V8.

I really think I'm going to get one. Either in an '04 A8 or an '05 S4.

I'm looking to ditch the oem wood trim from a 2003 all road. I believe it's identical to the A6 pieces (same interiour?)Every website I've seen so far only has 2005+ A6 dash kits.

Anyone done...

Both list only 2005 and up.
