Oh, whoops. Autos have fewer ratios than the manuals though, so the top gear ratio is probably very similar, if not even shorter on the autos.

3500 at 70mph rpm sounds right to me, that's pretty much exactly where my 88 5000 is. I'm assuming yours is a manual. These cars have very short gearing, which is awesome in my book.

That's what I did with my Miata, and it sounds fine. As someone mentioned though, the car will never pass a visual inspection. Not a worry if you don't have emissions where you live.

M105 and M205 will be your best friend on that paint. Try Meguiars burgundy pads with the 105 followed by yellow with the 205. Nice find, those engines are indeed bulletproof. Mine has 225,000 on it...
