You are correct, the 211 horsepower versions (Audi only) of the 2.0T have Valvelift which gives better fuel economy and more torque. This makes the heavier A5 about as quick as the GTI.

Audi USA quotes 4.9 for both. Until US magazines test the S4 there isn't US data on this. European magazines show the S4 a little quicker than the S5.

The reason behind V8 to V6 switch was always better fuel economy. And the new S4 delivers. It gets 18/28 with 7 speed S-Tronic and 18/27 with 6 speed manual.

Of course, it also looks like the V6...

The S4 has whooped BMW 335 and 335 all wheel drive pretty badly in German reviews. Performance wise. Half a second quicker than either one with 6 speed manual and 7 speed S-Tronic.
