Perhaps he'll enjoy seeing some III+ action. The "old" III kit is nice at ~280 crank hrsepower. The "new" GTI III+ kit, (~340 crank horsepower) is very nice if you don't mind a bit of torque steer...

Fair enough... You didn't say TT. My point stands though. The 225 kit is quite different...

The 225 kit is quite different from the other 1.8 kits, and makes a bunch more power over a nicely wide powerband.
