Heat at the turbos is controlled by the EGT sensors. If they are bad, your boost suffers, but that's how it kept under control. Never seen turbos overheat from the precats location.

Sounds like the SAT module is inop in the MMI. The A5 has the SAT built into the 5F module (MMI unit) on the cars with NAV, so if it does not come up, then it probably needs to be replaced....
