Fixed!

Carbon build up on the contacts caused them to heat up and slightly melt the plastic contact carrier which in turn caused the contacts to get stuck inside the carrier. After using very, very fine...

Help! Suddenly no headlights or foglights!

Went to the store and everything worked fine but when I went home, the headlights nor the front or rear foglights would work. Only the running lights (sidemarkers, taillights) worked.

The high...

2005 A4 1.8T timing belt

What parts do I need to replace the timing belt? I assume a t-belt and water pump but I haven't done one of these newer Audis yet. Does it require a special camshaft alignment tool like the C4 V6's?...

The rear cam lobe (exhaust) in the picture will not begin to open the exhaust valve until the piston reaches the bottom of its travel. Anyone who has ever adjusted mechanical lifters including the...

The cams will try to rotate the same amount regardless of which cylinder is at TDC.

Each 1/3 rotation of the camshaft puts one cylinder at TDC compression and another cylinder at TDC overlap with the remaining cylinders at various stages of opening/closing the intake/exhaust valves....

Good point! Unfortunately, Cylinder #1 isn't documented so it can only be assumed.

It would be intersting to see what cylinder the OBD lists if the engine is run with the spark plug or fuel injector unplugged from the passenger side front (assumed cylinder #1).

I haven't looked...

Cylinder Numbering: Passenger Side Rear is at TDC when crankshaft mark is aligned...

I suspect that there was some sort of mis-communications within Audi when they designed the V6. I agree that normally, #1 cylinder is in the front of the engine for water cooled engines. When...

Definitive cylinder and fireing order diagrams.

With the camshaft tool installed, the passenger side rear cylinder is at TDC of the compression stroke and therefore must be #1.

The label on the coil that was in the image that you posted doesn't...

And the official V6 cylinder numbering and firing order is... (drum roll please)

Cylinder #1 is the passenger side rear (US) which is the one closest to the positive terminal for jump starting the car.

Cylinder Numbering:

--- FIREWALL ---
(1)---(4)
(2)---(5)

I'll post a new thread tomorrow with pictures and diagrams...

This is just a guess but I suspect that the brackets that mount on the front of the cam sprockets can be mounted on either camshaft so that if they are installed one way, #1 cylinder will be at TDC...

I'll try that this evening.

When I had the cam alignment tool on, the passenger side front cylinder had 100% leakage when connected to the leakdown tester but it was leaking in the intake manifold. I wonder if the alignment...

Oh, wait a minute; that shows firing order and wire positions but not cylinder numbers.

Thanks for posting the picture. It fills in some of the gaps.

It is probably safe to say the #1 is on the passenger side bank and since the rear piston was at the top when the harmonic balancer...

Cylinder numbering and firing order

I can't find anything anywhere about how the cylinders are numbered or what the firing order is. I've found posts that mention 1-4-3-6-2-5 but that is about all.

I need to do a leakdown test to...

Re: Engine head gasket and power steering rack at the same time?

I did both last year on my 92 100S and doing the rack without the heads and manifold is just about the same as with the heads on. You will still need to remove the rack through the wheel well.

Re: 3 tire questions ???

As far as #3 is concerned, the logic is that you should have the best tread on the rear tires because if you begin to hydroplane and you have less tread on the rear, the rear will tend to come around...
