Swapping the auto tranny for a 6spd gearbox is pretty labor intensive but it has been done. I'm not sure exactly what is involved, but you can get a rebuilt 6spd transmission for around 2 grand....

The most likely cause is that you are relatively low on oil...

I can verify that they chatter. Just installed one with my VAST stage IV. It feels better though, so it's a question of whether the improvement makes up for the noise. I haven't made up my mind yet.
