The ironic thing is by wiggling and stretching the wire before cutting it out, the light worked. So, technically, I had an intermittent failure in light circuit.

The housing is fine, the bulk is fine and the plug is fine. I have removed trunk liner and untaped the harness where it leaves trunk hinge arm and needs the trunk...

Component quality has gone way up in ten years. 2009 rings aside. My 2002 had issues, less than a 1998, far more than my 2010. Only real failure on the 2010 in 80k was my sunroof motor under warranty...
