Cam tensioner. I've been having that noise when I start it up, and I guess it broke (more). I took it to the audi dealership because it started blinking CEL at me. I guess it's all coincidence.

Thanks. I was thinking it could be the motor mount. I didn't have this (shake/weird idle) before I took it in. I wonder is it possible when they were trying to get the axles off (they said they had...

So after not driving my car for a week, I was (not) surprised that the vibration is still there during idle. However, today was the first day I made it above 35 mph since I had the work done and I...

Rough idle after front axle replacement

The boot on my driver's side CV axle was ripped and had been for some time. The passenger side was also ripped but it still had some grease. I had both replaced.

Ever since I left the garage...

Thanks I'll check the boots again. I had the wheel off about 3 weeks ago but didn't see anything, but I suppose it could be larger hole now that might be more visible.

Would a CV joint that is...

If it is like the auto-dimming feature, then the glass is more than just "glass". In my mirror that ruptured, the glass also contains a vessel with a colored liquid which is pushed to the front when...

Mysterious smell + newly visible grease

Hi everyone. I hope someone here can point me further in the right direction.

I have a 2001 A4 (2.8 quattro, tiptronic). It has 106k miles.

Recently, within the past 2 weeks, I've noticed a...

Thanks for the info

Having owned a couple of 80's and currently driving an A4, I know that cheap + Audi do not go together, let alone "older Audi" :-)

Either way, relay or pump it would be something my brother can...

Possible purchase for a family member: 1989 200

My brother called me yesterday (he recently rolled his truck) and is looking for something a good car to drive to work (read: comfy, cheap, average or better fuel economy) and asked about this 1989...

None, if you learn from my mistakes...

Change your oil every 3 months. If you're like me, that means about 1500 miles. But do it. Don't wait until 3000 or 5000 or whatever interval you use according to your oil. 3 months, no...

Thanks for the part number.. a question...

I am troubleshooting some oil emulsion I had (see the link if you please) and thought perhaps that this may be clogged. My understanding is that this has what amounts to the PCV valve built in-line,...

Thanks will check that out as well.

Also my understanding of this piece is that it has what amounts to a PCV valve built in-line, which is not available as a separate piece. My unit is not cracking, but I am troubleshooting poor fuel...

Yep, that's the same thing... "octopus" was their term not mine.

I wouldn't call it that myself; it's not got 8 ends! :-)

Did you notice any improvement in fuel economy?

edit;

Nice, that place is right up the road from me I can go pick it up without...

Part number request?

I apologize if this is the wrong place to do this, but I know I've seen requests like these before :-)

I am looking for the part number for the "octopus" breather hose for a ATQ (2.8, 30v).

Multitude of problems

I've posted here once before about my cam tensioner problem, which has not gotten better or worse so for the time being that problem is on the back burner while I address some others.

I had a...

CAM Tensioner aka sew machine

A few months ago I had my car in the dealer for a noise that sounds like a sew machine and they said it was the cam tensioner. They wanted $2300 to fix it, but the mechanic told me (as an aside)...

As 4Rings said, on passenger's side back of engine...and a comment

I changed mine last weekend as I was getting around 22mpg on the freeway, so I started with the cheapest parts.

On a drive from Baltimore to Richmond this past weekend, I was up over 26mpg. I...

Could you e-mail me?

Might make things a little easier, I don't get to check the boards everyday.

I think I'm going to order 2 bottles of this Auto-RX, I was checking their website and I think their "sludge...

Solvent flush?

What exactly do you use? A specific product name would be great. I'm going to use the 15w40 diesel rated oil just to help clean the valves up a bit, they're pretty noisy.

I think after a good...
