when you're starting the car, try keeping the key in the "ON" position for a couple of seconds before cranking. That will be enough to prime the fuel pump and should take care of it.

if you got the right size tires they should not rub

yes, you can get 4x10mm

assuming you have a quattro (rear track narrower than FWD), many here get a bigger spacer for the rear to fill out...

and a few hundred miles to wear off the mold release compound (ie, break'em in)

should get better

no tread on old tires can be a good thing for steering feel... until you drive in the wet ;)

i think the A3 is the same center bore (57.1mm)

same thread type 14x1.5, but different (5x112) bolt pattern

TT is 5x100

is the bolt pattern lining up?

folks have run steelies for less than $50ea
you can get decent rims for $100ea
tirerack has OEM 6-spokes for only $149ea

I would recommend -1 sizing if you're getting new rims: go down to 16"...
