I replaced mine with standard lock nuts five years ago - no issues.

You'll need to hold the nut in place with a wrench as you tighten the bolt.

Ha! I can relate to the winter and summer Audi set-up.

My allroad has been a treat to drive in Alberta's north. Lives outdoors from November through April. Installed NAPA under-the-hood battery trickle charger and an oil pan heater.
