The issue may be moot....I tried to refinish a piece of A8 wood years ago and I could not find anyway to remove the plastic over-lay. I did not, however, try blasting with some sort of medium.

There are no more left at Audi. They were built only as an order came for them at Audi exclusive (now Sport) so there was never stock on a shelf. You will have to find some used ones and paint them...
