Looking for indy shop in MKE/Chicago North area

Just got one of "those" estimates from my local Milwaukee area Audi dealer. The one that makes you go "That's half a new Alltrack, and your car is 18 years old..."
I have a moderately aggressive...

OEM/Stock Springs/Struts/Shocks

I find myself with a broken rear spring and a desire to fix it without changing my stock ride height due to living in the frozen tundra.

I'm going to just do shocks and springs all round 'cause...

Burning Smell - Passenger Side Front

2001 Sedan

Happens even after short (4-5 mile) drives. Sometimes smell it on the road when I'm stopped at a light or driving slow. I thought it might be a stuck caliper but the disc doesn't seem...

Yeah. Did that. Bupkis. Hence the question.

Unless I want to drive down to Chi-town (which isn't really fun at the best of times)

Best way to find a local indy shop you can trust?

I am thinking about getting the front suspension bits done, and I don't have the time to do it myself these days. Problem is I'm anal. My car's not a show car but I want to make sure that what's...

A Tesla with a 4-speed tranny?

I thought they were 2-speeds (with one locked out) and the new ones were single speed.

Was this a "White Star" proto?

[eta: Never mind, you were talking about your car, not the Tesla. Duh.]

Anyone know the 2001 S4 CD Changer PN?

Thought it was 4B0-035-111, but that list claims it's only through '99

Just curious? Where do you'all jack/put stands

I've been jacking "near" the lift points with a hockey puck and putting the stands directly on the lift points, but I'm always nervous about marring the sill.

I know it's a noob-ish question, but...

I could be interested, depending on cost/details

And on if running on pump was still an option.

We have a lot of E85 around here these days, but I travel to places where that's not the case.

This looks like a winner for my usage patterns

What's a usual "diagnostic" mileage?

Subtitled: If your dealer did a 1/2 hour CEL reset (Low Fuel according to them, but that's another story) and put 14 miles on the car would you be annoyed/concerned?

You traded Terre Haute for Troy? I'm not sure you won on that one.

I did a semester at Rose Hulman back in the 80's and it was a dead dead town.

Re: Cold Weather Problem with Door Latch

No, the door doesn't stick shut, it's like the outside latching mechanism is just failing to release the latch.

That's probably a good call...

I'm not used to having to CYA on dealer stuff, but it seems to be the norm with AoA.

Cold Weather Problem with Door Latch

Here's the short form: When it gets cold (I mean really cold - single digits and below) my drivers side door refuses to open from the outside handle. It unlocks fine, and opens fine from the inside...

The new interior styling completely underwhelms me

The big square vents, chrome accents, the whole thing looks almost Buick-like. The new VW's even look better than this inside.
