Whurring sound on start up.

I have developed a whurring sound when I start my car. Only lasts a second. I have been told it's the bendix gear on the starter motor and nothing can be done about it. True or false??

I hear you guys but in this country the quattro is only available with the V6 and dsg. I don't want

it as by all accounts the 2ltr is the sweeter handling car and I don't drive hard enough to make the front wheels slip in the dry or the wet. Thanks for your advice though.

A couple of questions if you don't mind?

1. Do you have to add mudflaps to protect the body if you install spacers and
2. Do the replacement 3" downpipes and cats really make a difference?
