I told the service advisor that I wanted to talk to someone at Audi about it...

I haven't heard back yet. I'll press further when my car goes into the shop on Monday. Haven't written to anyone yet but I do plan on making a colossal deal out of this, the extent that I can.

I'd be very interested in the catch-can system in particular...

Given that all of Audi's fixes thus far have failed to address the root cause it looks like I'll need to modify or defeat the PCV system in some way or another. I like the idea of the catch can as...

Thing is, it shouldn't happen at all...

A problem that affects even one percent of all DI engines is a gigantic problem from an industrial quality and performance standpoint. The problem has shown up across the board on all of Audi's FSI...

I'm surprised that this generic issue with DI hasn't gotten more press...

I keep meaning to write a letter on my experiences to Car and Driver et al. In my opinion DI as it is implemented by many makes is not ready for prime time. People won't stand for a 1,000 dollar...

You have to look for it, but there are stations that sell it. You'll pay a little more per gallon but you also get more energy content per gallon. I used this website to find my Shell station:

2008 A6 Avant 3.2 FSI Carbon Deposit Update

Hello everyone, just putting some more data out there on the FSI carbon build up problems.

Some back story on my 2008. I'm working from memory here but I can provide more detailed records if...

Might want to rethink that stance... given how well the "stomp your foot, refuse input from community, alienate user base, gut eyeball flux" strategy worked with the whole threaded view thing. Just...

For all of vB's supposed superiority...

It's amusing that the ruination of Audiworld took months to implement, even with the newer, betterer and zOMG so much more Web2.0able vB platform. While an alternate site was able to throw down a...

Turnabout is fair play. The last time I checked the users of the site which generate the vast majority of the content found on Audiworld's servers were not being compensated in anyway. I'm not sure...

O rly?

What about all that nonsense that vB was successfully running sites with "orders of magnitude more volume" than AW? Oh. You mean the information about how the posts are organized is also useful? ...

Any hope of a threaded hierarchy view or is that gone for good now?

The information density is atrocious but it would be tolerable if you could follow a conversation in the same manner as kawf with easily identified conversation branches and threaded replies. ...

Glad to help!

You can spot the advanced key in photos, it'll show up as a pair of buttons to the left of the gear selector as you've probably seen. Those are the Engine Start / Stop buttons. NAV is trickier, I...

Here's some answers... I also toyed with the idea of a used A8 for a while but got an A6 Avant.

The A8 was appealing due to the extra space, but I had just about given up on them when I saw the new A4 Avants, especially once I heard they had gotten a bit bigger. So I was looking into those...

My 2008 came with the Audi Music interface and an iPod cable.

There's a small unit that's installed in the glove box with an interface cable that you connect to the iPod. Once it's connected you can browse the iPod through the MMI, artists, albums, playlists,...

There's no such thing as a free lunch, even with an exhaust driven super-charger.

Doing the work on the intake charge requires that a certain amount of energy be extracted from the overall system. The penalty on an exhaust driven blower comes in the form of decreased breathing...

You could hear the B5 gurgle when it was moving fuel around in the fuel tank.

My Quattro A4 does this, especially when the tank is getting low. You could sit and hear the fuel move if you stopped short of engaging the starter. And now that I think about it the B5 makes a...

I've noticed that my 2008 makes a little mechanical noise/groan when I first open the door.

It's not a loud noise and I can only hear it when I'm in my garage and it's quiet outside. I figure its some sort of pump going into a ready state. It happens when I actually pull on the door...

Wow... sounds like I really stumbled onto something special with my A6 :-)

They must not sell that many sports suspensions to warrant removing the option. I remain insanely happy with my purchase.

2008 A6 Avant Mileage report - drove about 350 miles yesterday and averaged 29.7 mpg and 65 mph

Mostly interstate driving at 70-85 mph as well as a fair amount of moron-induced bumper-to-bumper for 10-15 minute stretches. Most impressive for such a heavy car. I'm loving it!

ADS comes with the same springs as the sport and S-line cars in the US FWIW.

The variable ratio steering and throttle/tranny adjustments are the more pertinent differentiators. The suspension is the same on all ADS A4s with the obvious difference in the variable dampers. ...

Well to be fair Audi has all but used sky writing to tell people that there's no S4 Avant coming.

At least to the U.S. market. They sold upwards of dozens of the things during the last go around. There's scads of interviews and quotes on the topic. Best to get used to the idea that there's no...
