Mechanically.

The screw is secured with Locktite. A drop of Acetone, followed by WD-40 will allow it to be dislodged carefully. Don't bugger the screw!

The reason I asked is that I almost replaced mine ...

... until I found stealthy cracks in the very fragile silicone rubber hoses. It took a pressure test and a stethoscope to find them,

... that had the cap and rod mating interface indexed with cross cuts before machining the journal. This allowed enlarged bolt holes to avoid internal contact with the bolts, thus minimizing bolt...

That looks like a buckled rod due to some other problem.

What I meant was that you can't apply a bending moment to the green rod by any force you apply through the red stubs. You can only apply axial tension or compression.

That's always a difficult problem when using stock crank shafts, ...

... because widening the journals would weaken the crank. So people have chrome plated and polished the journals and used different bearing shell materials that, while not as long lived as OEM...

There seems to be a fair amount of discussion here about stronger rods to accommodate high boost (&gt;500 hp) in the 2.7T engine. Why would that be necessary?
